VA eligibility

Who may be eligible for a VA home loan?

VA home loan eligibility is based on service history and is confirmed by the VA through a Certificate of Eligibility. Eileen can help you understand where you stand and what to gather.

Who may be eligible

  • Veterans who meet VA service requirements
  • Active-duty service members
  • National Guard and Reserve members who meet service requirements
  • Certain surviving spouses of service members or veterans

What you can prepare

  • Your DD-214 or a statement of service, if you have one
  • Your Certificate of Eligibility (COE), or details so it can be requested
  • Recent pay stubs, W-2s or other income documents
  • Recent bank statements
  • A rough idea of where and when you want to buy

Eligibility is not approval

Having VA eligibility means you may use the benefit. Loan approval is a separate step based on credit, income, assets and the property.

How Eileen helps

Eileen can review your situation with you, explain your options, and help you request your COE if you don't have it yet.

Submitting a form on this site does not determine official VA eligibility and is not an approval, pre-approval or commitment to lend. Official eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. All loans are subject to credit approval and underwriting.
